GBF Scholars Pay It Forward

The Gokongwei Brothers Foundation (GBF) China Scholarship Program was established to help enhance potentials of young Filipinos who will one day lead the country towards social and economic development. Seen as possible catalysts of change, the first batch of GBF scholars spent one year in Beijing to gather knowledge and insights from one of the world’s economic powers, China.

Now, armed with learnings culled from the Chinese culture and economy, the 34 scholars are back in the Philippines and putting their experiences in motion through the Project Hope Warrior. The project’s recent highlight was the Hope Warrior Caravan, which brought them to various colleges and universities around the Philippines to share their China experience and how it has transformed their lives.

Project Hope Warrior has one basic goal – to inspire young Filipinos to dream big by encouraging them to move beyond what is safe and familiar, and to explore what the world has to offer. Some of the GBF scholars took turns speaking before promising student bodies can one day become instrumental in shaping the country’s future.

“Project Hope Warrior is our way of giving back to the Philippines after gaining valuable knowledge and insights when we were in Beijing,” said GBF batch president Atty. Lesley Cordero.

“The GBF scholarship program did not only teach us to speak Mandarin but it also gave us a global mindset and an international perspective. This is what our country needs now to survive the challenges. Through the Project Hope Warrior, we hope to start a responsible bandwagon among our youth,” Atty. Cordero added.

The Hope Warrior Caravan itinerary included inspirational talks at De La Salle University, Far Eastern University, Siliman University, University of San Carlos, Southwestern University, and Central Philippine University.
